Web3 and Sports : it's just the beginning !

✅ Sports teams have had large communities of fans for many years.
✅ Web3 business models have communities as their foundation.
✅ Sports and Web3 are therefore an ideal match.

But up to recently we had very few examples of long term and significant Sports related Web3 projects.

👉 We have had Digital Collectibles sold as NFTs such as the NBA Top Shots, but when the NFL tried to replicate it was pretty much a failure. This showed that the initial success was more about speculation than anything else.

👉 We have had the Fan Token such as those of Chiliz/Socios for football teams but voting on the colour of the team bus and other such "perks" did not really prove valuable.

🧠 However, more recently we have seen the emergence of projects building "the right way" : building a community first and only then monetizing it (rather than trying to milk $ out of an existing community of fans/speculators FOMOing on a possible quick win).

✅ An example is the McLaren Racing 23/23 free drop. It has already managed to regroup a geographically dispersed community of 500K fans (after only 5 of the 23 planned drops). All of a sudden you reach a scale which allows you to bring onboard relevant partners worldwide and provide a valuable Club Membership experience.

👉 Thanks to Web3, Sports teams have the opportunity to become global brands and branch out from the original game as long as they keep their strong values at the forefront.
